The Day Innocence was Lost (part 1)

How do we become what we are to today? Is our personality inborn? Or does our enviroment shape our character? Certain incidents happened in our childhood made us learn valuable lessons in life. Does that make us lose our child like innocence? Or does it help us survive in the society? Judge for yourself.

LYING
Jane was taught since young by her dad that she should always tell the truth. She makes it a point to keep this value. One day Jane's dad came home from work and found his model ship smashed on the floor. Out of anger, he grabbed Jane and her 2 younger silblings to interregate. None of them confessed , which resulted in Jane's dad whipping them with his belt. He counldn't control his anger, not that he even did try. The model ship doesn't matter to him anymore, but the fact that his children are lying to him aggitates him more. " I'll only stop when the culprit confesses," he roared as he whips them even hard. If he doesn't teach them a lesson now, who knows what they will do next. Jane felt that she need to protect her 2 younger silblings, Johnny is bleed from the edge of his mouth and Jacklyn couldn't stop screaming. She couldn't talk sense into her dad anymore and she didn't know who did it. She could only do one thing now. She lied. She confessed to the crime she never did."You little whore! If you have confessed earlier, you all won't have to suffer. Let this be a lesson to all of you. You go back to your room and no supper for you tonight"Locked in her room, Jane couldn't sleep that night. She was proud that she saved her siblings. But what her dad done to her shattered her moral foundation. The truth doesn't hurt, the belt does.

ATTENTION
Rick have a lot of pride in himself, he place a lot of importance on his face value. But Rick doesn't have any friends. He always wondered why nobody like him. He is not proud but rather, he's shy. One day he was playing by himself , as usual, at the local playground while the other kids are playing in a large group. He suddenly fell down, on a pile of dog shit. Some of the kids noticed and started laughing and pointing at him."how fucking embrassing", he thought, wanting to run away immediatly . But this time, something felt different. He likes the fact that everyone is looking at him. He loves the attention. Rick took some dog shit and rub on his face and the kids starts laughing. "I'm funny, they love me", rick thought, proceeding to do worse with the dog shit. Pride doesn't matter to him anymore, attention does. Till this day, rick has a lot of friends but none of them are close to him. He is still the clown in his group of friends. Nobody takes him seriously anymore. " One day, they will laugh with me, not at me... one day.."

ACTING
One day, Gavin's mum was so angry with him for failings his maths test that she caned him and locked him out of the house. Gavin couldn't stop crying, he didn't meant to fail but no matter how hard he study, he never seems to understand the concepts. To show his regret, he knee outside his house, just like the soap opera he saw on tv.He felt that this way he can show his determination and remorse. An hour passed, no one seems to notice. At this point, Gavin realised something. If no one saw what happened, it did not happen at all. He started screaming at the top of his voice sobbing in the most tragic way he could. Gavin's mum heard it and rushed out of the house."What are you doing? you poor thing. Stop kneeing there, come in. Just try harder next time, ok?" Behind his deceitful crying, Gavin was laughing. He couldn't stop thinking of what he can do with his new found discovery. Truth doesn't matter, others perception does.

I think innocence is just a nicer word for ignorance.

Those incidents in our childhood leave a heavier imprint in our memories, maybe because first impression counts, maybe because we are ignorant or maybe because there is no previous knowledge to allow us to filter out what we deem untrue.

Every incident(where we gain info as either opinions or facts) in our life as we grow would either sway or reinforce our thought/mentality regarding those particular issues.

So,

Yes. Our environment shape our character.
But our inborn personality(and past experience) makes us interpret/deal with same situations differently.
Yes. We lose our child like innocence. For better or for worst(I say better).

Okay. Doesn't make sense. Kill me.
